I remember one of our more advanced computers at home. It had a microphone connected to it and since it was connected to a phone jack the computer was able to be used as a telephone. Skype is able to perform this function via the world wide web. We were only able to call locally because the long-distance charges would be too pricey, my parents said. Two years ago I was able to Skype my sister in London while she was studying abroad, for FREE! Can't beat that. While Skype has great implications for keeping you connected to friends and family, it could also be used to help teachers in their professional development. Some math functions are hard to explain through written word and would be much easier if it could be expressed through words. Being a part of a professional audio group could be an interesting forum.

Hey Emily,
I'm glad we had the online class experience together. It was fun, but I would have been nervous if you weren't with me in case some problems came up. I also appreciate you showing me how to skype after our class was done with Megan, Cheryl, Joe, and even Lisa! Fun Times! :)
Skype is pretty cool. We talk with relatives a lot because they like to see Maggie and they are far away. It is a good way for them to see her grow up!
I'm hoping the online experience was good - I agree Skype is a great and amazing product. How could you use it with students?
I like that you made them wirte the paper. I think that critical thinking assignments like this do help in the development of good logic. You should have had some students of mine that were using G--DOCS for me. They are having lots of fun.
Skype could be really great if a student were homebound with an illness or in the hospital. If they were able to get to a computer with internet it would be great to have them "in" the classroom with the everyone else. Students could also use Skype to communicate with another students across the city, country, or world.
